Learn About the Upper West Side

The Upper West Side (UWS) is home to lively mix of young professionals, families and college students and stretches from West 59th St to the low 100’s from Central Park West to the River. Located at the southwest corner of Central Park, the Upper West Side begins at Columbus Circle, where the new Time Warner Center and the Trump Tower converge for both business and pleasure.

Named after the explorer Christopher Columbus, the robust, gold monument to him greets passengers exiting the 59th Street subway, who emerge directly underneath it. often making their way Northeast toward the residential area surrounding Central Park, the Lincoln Center and the Museum of Natural History, among other attractions.

The Upper West Side, in addition to comprising new condos buildings, pre-war co-ops and single-family townhomes centered between West End Avenue and Broadway, boasts some prestigious neighbors. In 2005, Time Warner moved its corporate headquarters from Sixth Avenue to the Time Warner Center and filled it with offices, residences, a Millennium Hotel and upscale stores there. The Time Warner Center also became the NYC headquarters of CNN a few years later. Donald Trump, one of New York’s most infamous residents, offices nearby in his building, the Trump International Hotel and Tower. Finally, Columbia University, less than three miles away, offers its students a beautiful campus within a city and countless professionals higher educational degree programs.

Sometimes it seems that there’s nothing to do on the Upper West Side but eat. You can do the historicaleat, at institutions like Barney Greengrass; the wallet-sapping eat at Jean Georges; the bargain gourmetthing at Gennaro. It’s all there. Enjoy!

Lincoln Center is on the southern border, find a concert or play during any season.

Great Outdoors

Central Park, with its meadows, zoo and concerts is a strong argument for living on the UWS. And there’s no better place for a jog or bike ride than its roadways and paths. On the opposite side of the neighborhood, there’s Riverside Park, a gorgeous strip of real estate that doesn’t attract the crowds of its more famous sister.
